About Stephanie
A Natural Dedication.
Stephanie and her husband, Roger, moved to Mill Valley to raise their family nearly 30 years ago. She actually ran her first campaign in 5th grade, serving first as class Treasurer and then Vice President. Working as a student on an Earth Day project in high school, Stephanie realized her life’s work would be caring for people and the planet. Stephanie knew early on that her true love was getting the things accomplished that made a real difference in the lives of everyday people—and that meant understanding policy and engaging with communities.
Passion to Understand.
Stephanie is a problem-solver. Over the years she has established a reputation for listening, doing thorough homework, asking questions, and pulling people together to find common ground, even—or maybe especially—when they may come from differing perspectives. Her ability to see the big picture, and understand the basic steps needed to get something done, allow her to manage complex projects, without ego. Working collaboratively, she pushes the process until a solution is developed that can address the challenge—thoughtfully, compassionately, and holistically.
A strong Background.
Initially, as a mother and avid biker, she became active in Safe Routes to School, chairing the Mill Valley Safe Routes to School Taskforce for several years. This led to representing Mill Valley on the TAM Board (Transportation Authority of Marin), and eventually chairing that board as well, and now serves as Marin County’s representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission with the 9 Bay Area Counties. Stephanie served three terms on the Mill Valley City Council before being elected Supervisor for Southern Marin.
Living in a canyon in Mill Valley’s wildland-urban interface zone, Stephanie also became actively involved in Mill Valley’s disaster preparedness and community education efforts. Starting with organizing her neighborhood and leading the Community Emergency Response Team, Stephanie ultimately served as chair of both the City and School District emergency preparedness committees.
Attuned to issues facing our young people and our seniors, Stephanie championed Mill Valley’s Age Friendly initiative and was an early supporter of Mill Valley Village. With concerns for local youth and the high rates of substance abuse in Marin youth across the county, she obtained a county grant to co-found Mill Valley Aware, a community coalition of students, school administrators, parents, the local business community, and public safety and recreation staff which successfully reduced teen drug and alcohol use and prohibited sales of flavored tobacco products in Mill Valley.
Professionally, Stephanie has worked in the fields of environmental protection and sustainability, communications, and historic preservation.
District 3 represents the Southern Marin communities, including Sausalito, Floating Homes, Marin City, Mill Valley, Tam Valley, Almonte, Alto-Sutton Manor, Strawberry, Tiburon, and Belvedere.
